Intro

We're up to the finals and all that's left is kungfugrip and MetaSin. It's felt like it's taken forever to get here but we're finally here. This mag will cover round 3 and the semi-finals. Sorry for not posting a mag last round but I barely have time to post one mag anymore and I try to get the league one done first. Props to everyone who was in the tourney and showed and to those who voted as hell.

Reviews

MetaSin vs. UserName
UserName no showed and Metasin ended up getting the no show win. This was the battle I was most looking forward to in round 3 so this was a disspointment. At least one of them showed though cause for a few there it felt like neither was going to show.

Kungfugrip vs. Larkin
Larkin actually surprised me here, he didnt have anything that was amazing but he was consistently solid. Kung was also consistent, and had the harder hitting lines. Kung had the bars of the battle and the fresher lines. Kung ended up winning 7-0

Calefaction vs. ALIEN
Calefaction ended up fucking himself over in this match by having a few nameplays on his own name, some voters didnt seem to feel that he did that. ALIEN came pretty cool, he had a hard personal about cal aiming him for votes, that was roflz. Cal came with it in a few cool lines but he just wasnt as consistent as ALIEN was. ALIEN ended up winning 7-3

Richard Corey vs. ill nik-A
Nik brought some funny lines and had a cool verse overall but corey came with the personals, his verse was just packed with personals, some of which hit pretty hard. The battle was alot closer than the votes showed. I think nik got a little too wordy at times and thats the main thing that ended up costing him this battle. Corey ended up winning 7-1.

kungfugrip vs. Richard Corey
Neither came with their best here but it was still a cool battle. Kung had a couple of lines that felt forced which isnt typical of him, I guess he rushed his verse. Corey focused on personals and alot of them hit, just not as hard as he thought they would. This was a lot closer than the votes showed, I thought it could have gone either way. It ended up going 10-0 with kung as the winner

MetaSin vs. ALIEN
ALIEN dropped a pretty cool verse and almost ended up winning this battle. MetaSin didnt drop his best but it still ended up being enough to compete with ALIEN's verse and it ended up being the majority of the voters choice for the winning verse of the battle. MetaSin had some cool wordplay at times, although there were times when some felt forced. ALIEN had a line that hit pretty hard but MetaSin seemed to have a haymaker or 2 more than ALIEN did and I think that's what got metasin the win here. MetaSin won 11-9.

Predictions on the Finals
Who is going to win, kungfugrip or MetaSin?

Final Chapta: i think kung will win - for more than one reason. i personally think they 're just about equal in skill. but kung is riding a wave of success that meta has since for sometime now. although meta can bring it ..kung will take it for being dope & active. not that meta wont come hard enough to get the W ..never seen him slack ..but kung has somewhat of a fan base and backs up the hype nicely. so kung gets the pre battle vote. should be one for the ages.

Skillustrious: Close, good battle. I personally just like Kung's style better. Could go either way tho.


Frank Metts: dope match up and it could go either way... meta's ill no doubt but if i was in vegas id put money on grip.... dudes ill got the next level lol factor that i havent seen from meta... meta may come wit better concepts but grip has a way of making his shit stick n sting and to me at least the comedy factor always stick out more and if grip drinks a few tall cans take 10 dilaudins and sniffs and 8 ball he'll prob drop some of the best shit of the tourny..... We'll just all have to pitch in for one of those big get well cards and a male midget stripper if he survives this od.......... Pz


Deadweather: MetaSin has been on point recently, coming off the back of a few solid wins and a couple VOTW's to boot. I'm not sure where the guy was ranked beforehand, but I'm certain most would have placed him round or about the finals. Kung seemed to start the tourney off the slower of the two, but he's gradually been hitting his stride again and he scored that HUGE win over User last week. I think Kung brings more of that comedy factor which tends to edge closer battles, and all in all I feel that he will edge it based on this. Vote - Kung


Serge: Metasin - Monster. We used to bounce lines off eachother back in the day and even his discards were dope. Accomplished int he UA league and murdered the first PBA. This dudes was dope when I still sucked and has only gotten better in this full fledged comeback. He's beasting it with Cane in the tag league and honestly they look unstoppable with the comp they have.

Kung - This guys the #1 text head at the moment, bar none. It's like the L Cal just pist him off even more, now he just took the pic league title off of User and is showing no signs of letting up. He's basically in the zone and won't take no for an answer. Plus, he goes to the beer store. Seriously, they have that shit in Canada. You go in and all there is is fucking BEER. I'd have a seizure.

Both have clout as top tier; certainly have my respect and if you know me thats saying alot. On one side, you have Metasin who can and WILL come with nasty wordplay that'll make you think you suck for not having thought of it first. Kungs a funny dude. Similar to my own style, he just goes for the jugular and hates on his opponents credibility (sexlife, life at all) but then adds some of the craziest wit youve ever come across. these are 2 guys you either bring your A game against or youre better of noshowing.


As a favorite, I have to go with Grip. I've actually battled him and know what he can do, angles he takes and what he exploits about his opponent and I've gotta say that it's ether through n through. Add the roll that he's on and basically, I don't think Metasin can beat him right now. Emphasis on THINK, because what I KNOW is that Meta can win this if he doesn't falter. We're dealing with 2 guy's that as of right now hold their own respective title's, one in pic and the other in tag. Both can just as much be champion of any other aspect of NBL, you just can't say that about 95% of people who battle to begin with. But, Grip just beat Username, a fuckin' seasoned PRO at pic battles. When you beat a guy like User at his own game, you're a problem. Add the fact that (not to take anything away from him) Meta's biggest wins in this tourney have been Resin and User, and both were noshows. He hasn't been challenged enough.

Grip in a close one.

Mike Wrecka: im gonna have to go with Kung Fu. he is on a major roll here. his verses always contain the perfect mix of wit and humor. metasin is dope and capable of winning, but i thought he lost last round to alien. kung fu just beat username in the pic division of the nbl if im not mistaken. and beating user in a pic match is probably the hardest thing to do in text. these guys are both in the top five on this site in my opinion, so it should be a sick battle.

Alvin Karpis: i honestly wasn't following the tourney, so i'm clueless lol. But if i had to pick one, it would be Metasin....he has creative name plays and some fresh concepts most of the time. Kung fu is a beast at pic battles but i don't see him winning this one....i wish i knew more about them, cuz thats really i can say

ill nik-A: Great battle, Metasin is dope and has shown consistency with the best of them but Kung I think will edge it out, he'll go to the bar and come back asking for an extension cuz he's too shit faced to write then drop hotness on the hangover tip. Good battle, both have been hot lately but yea if i had to pick I'm going with Kid Twist with a mullet.

Tettris: great matchup. two really respected cats going at it in the finals. both have been tested in the rounds before. ive always dug metasin's style since i first saw him on RM. very unique style. and i've liked kungs steez since i saw him on prowlerz. i personally have never seen them face off which makes it really interesting to me. the contrast in styles will make it a great read alone. but honestly i dunno if kung can perform this strongly two weeks in a row coming off a big win in the pic league. i've been wrong before but i really feel that Meta's creativity get him the W here. Prediction: Metasin 9-4

Cane: I think it'll be close. That sounds obvious I know, but I think each has advantages over the other.

As for Sin's advantages, I think kung can be an easy target. He makes himself too easy a target by opening up his entire life to everyone here. That's just his thing, so fuckin eh, cool. But it hurts in battles. He's battled a ton recently so there's a shitload of material to use on him and he has a distinct style so it can be easy to write for since you know what's coming. He's still insanely good.

As far as advantages for Kung go, Sin is a busy guy. And he writes alot. The biggest advantage is a combination of those two things. Sin has been writing a ton of verses lately everywhere and he's sometimes a really busy dude. This could wear him out. Kung might catch him napping. He also has a noticeable style but not as much as Kung.

Overall, Kung's shown he sometimes doesn't care about a battle as much as the next guy and you can catch him putting together some subpar stuff, for his standards. Not often but it happens. Sin I think writes better under pressure, and some of his lines aren't really properly appreciated by some people. He's got a really old school kinda wording style and some new people aren't into it. He is prone to putting out a line or two that aren't heavy hitters and sometimes Kung just brings a verse full of them.

I think it just comes down to who writes better the day they sit down and put their shit together. It's a boring response but I think that's how it will be. Either of them could win and if they battled 10 times I'm pretty sure neither would win 7 times or more.

Kung will come at Sin with wordplay like he always does. It'll be well worded and he'll attack him with funny personals. That's his shit. Sin will come at him with wordplay and a more serious "fuck you" personal approach. That's just his thing. He'll be writing to win, I know that. He'll be ready. I think it'll come down to voter preference as well.

If Sin seriously brings it, I think it'll end up like 11-9 Sin or something like that. By brings it, I mean if he can deliver consistency and hit the homerun haymaker or two that decides the battle. If not, I think Kung will take it 10-7. They're both insanely talented writers and deserve to be where they are. I know Sin wants to win, and I think he'll write like it.

Like I said, I could see it going either way and it's no shame on either of them to lose this one. I'm predicting Meta wins 13-11. I also predict it'll take a toll on him after writing so much culminating with this that he may be out of gas for a little bit afterward.

Xquisite: Well both are dope and I'm sure everyone would agree that it could go either way... Kungs got the humor and Meta's got the creativity...usually humor will prevail, but Meta is that type of dude that will drop creative shit, that will just make u say "damn". Kung usually always gets a laugh out of me, but the last time they battled (summer classic) I thought Meta won...so based of history (even though Kung won)...my gut is tellin me Metasin, should be dope

Defcon_5: That's a hard one to decide but in the end i think Kungfugrip will edge it out. not taking anything away from Sin but the people tend to be a little more comfortable with his style more than Sin's. i've known Sin for years and he's always had a complex/witty way of wording his lines and punches and it u can't recognize good lines right off the back they will go over ur head while kung is a tad more direct in his approach so his lines aren't as complex but still have the same type of power behind them so the average and below average battlers can't understand them without having to read them 5 or 6 times. In the end this will be a great match and honestly can go either way. in the end i think it just comes down to how complex they word their lines

Lefty: Based on my time so far on netcees and BW in the past, I'd have to go with Grip...Since I've been around the dude has been on quite a run. Personally, he's one of the only guys that I think would give the most difficult challenge to beat. Meta's always been dope too, so it's not like this thing is immediately written off as a blow out. It is the finals so anybody can come with more haymakers and take it. I guess it's kinda like Lebron and Kobe, you love watching them both and you love having them both but Kung's doing his thing right now.

Richard Corey: I think Grip is going to win. He's on fire. He's having one of those stretches where every idea and punch he has comes up with is gold. Metasin is cool, but I don't know how active he's been lately. This game is all about staying current, staying abrest of current events on the boards and in the real world; this keeps your punches and references fresh. Grip has been doing that and it shows in his battles. Also, you have to look at who they beat to get to the finals. I feel Grip had the hardest road, lol.

DaTrusHurtz: Mann, should one dope ass match, I got a lotta respect for both battlers, but I'm leanin' towards Grip. He just killed it last week against Corey, tons of really creative shit in there. Also, I think Grip words his punches in a way that gets to the point a bit better than MetaSin does. I'm sure both battlers will give it their all in this one tho, n' if MetaSin pulled out the win, I wouldn't be too surprised.

Allen Knight: this will be a very close one i think cuz both been dropping dope shit that whole torney..i think kung has alot of funny bars and harsh ones too his concepts are pretty good and meta has some nice shit too his style is more cut throat and to the point...his wording is nice but this really can be a toss up anyone of them can take it so ima predict kung in a close dope battle.

John Hensley: I think this is at least their 3rd battle. Kung is 2-0 against him from the battles I remember, and I also remember Kung winning by 1 vote in their first battle, and I think the last one here at Netcees was on a deciding vote too. So they have gone down to the wire. In terms of skill, I think they are different types of battlers, they bring different aspects of battling to their verses.

Kung to me, has been influenced by the Resin, butler, Frac types of battling, he has a swagger to his verses and lines, he uses sometimes simple ideas but in a tone that makes it much more demeaning. Other times Kung can drop dope fresh lines. I think his lines are generally humor based, meaning he's going to get laughs out of voters which is always a good way to win a battle. I do think Kung could go more personal sometimes, it would work well with his style of writing, more aggressive ideas would probably go hand in hand with the swagger he has in his wording. He's difficult to beat because of his combination of swag, wording and creativity.

Meta is one of the more talented actual text battlers I've seen. You can see the era he's from in his writing, and how it isn't quite the same as Kung's. Meta has as good of wording as anyone battling today, and is a pretty creative writer. He'll pull out some generics that might be a little iffy here and there, but he's capable of tying concepts together really well. Meta will also go personal sometimes. I think he has it all it's just a matter of choosing the right concepts for the battle.


As for a prediction, it depends on alot of things. I have a feeling that Meta will have less trouble writing for this, he might be a little more focused on winning since he's lost the last cpl to Kung. But if he goes too generic and off base with the way he disses Kung, it might be harder for him to win. Kung is guaranteed to have a couple harder hitting lines. If Kung lacks on creative ideas, and doesn't go very personal, he'll have a hard time winning though. Meta is consistent.

If I had to guess right now, I think Kung is on a little bit of a roll after his verse against User, but Meta has been dropping dope as well in the tag league. I think Kung is a small favorite, mainly because he has the wins over him in the past, but if Meta is motivated for this, he'll win.

Genocide: i like meta sin.. kung fu isnt always as concistent, seems a little sloppilky rushed at times -espescially in the big battles such as this one.. metasin on the other hand -i havnt seen him drop inconsistently yet, except maybe on our topical -wasnt inconsistent.. but sure didnt follow the topic, blah.. anyway -i like m.s. in all reality -it could go both ways.. but thats my piece
